Are you feeling sluggish or out of sync? Struggling with skin problems, aches and pains, or digestive problems? Can’t seem to lose weight? It might be time for a body detox.
Practiced for centuries by cultures around the world – including ayurvedic and Chinese medicine – detoxify means eliminate the toxins of the body. Our health is highly determined by the body’s ability to detoxify itself.
About 80 % of diseases are directly related to excessive intake and production of substances that our body can only tolerate in small doses from time to time because the excretory organs need time to clear them.
FOOD HABITS THAT INTOXICATE THE BODY
We intoxicate our bodies daily through the food we consume, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the products we use on the skin and also through the thoughts we generate such as the emotions we live and stress.
The physical agents that intoxicate us are: sugar, salt, alcohol, coffee, refined and processed foods, animal fats and protein (meat and dairy), foods produced with pesticides, pollution and cigarettes. And these are just some examples.
Furthermore, low consumption of fibers and liquids (primarily water) impair the functioning of the intestines and other excretory organs, hindering the elimination of toxins.
HOW TO DETOX?
Going through a detox proram will benefit your health and wellness. To start, first lighten up your toxin load. Eliminate alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars and saturated fats. Also, minimize use of chemical-based household cleaners or substitute them for natural alternatives.
Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods. These detoxifying foods favor the elimination of waste, but also nourish, rejuvenate and revitalize.
Furthermore, it is important to ingest about two liters of water daily and avoid tap water because it is full of chemicals.
Also, detoxing with liquids and juices is a great way to help give your body the nutrients it’s really craving, and can give your digestive system a break from having to break down and digest solid food.
